General questions

What services does Big Yakk's Transport provide?

We provide air and ocean freight, container transport, warehousing and domestic transport. Each service has its own page with details on how it works and what we need to quote.

How do I request a quote?

Use the quote form on this website, or call us on 0461 400 107. The form takes a couple of minutes and asks for the details we need to price the job accurately.

What information do you need for a quote?

The service you need, what the freight is and how it's packed, approximate dimensions and weight, pickup and delivery locations, and your timing. If you don't have every detail, send what you have we'll follow up on the rest.

Where do you provide transport services?

Coverage depends on the service and the job, so we confirm it case by case. Include your pickup and delivery locations in your quote request, or call 0461 400 107, and we'll let you know whether we can help.

Can I combine services for example, container transport and warehousing?

Yes. Many jobs involve more than one step, such as a container moving from the port into storage and then out for delivery. Tell us the whole picture and we'll quote it together.

How do I contact Big Yakk's Transport?

Call 0461 400 107 or email [email protected]. You can also send a message through the contact form on this website.

Should I ship by air or sea?

It depends on how urgent the shipment is, its size and weight, and your budget. Air freight is faster and suits smaller, urgent or high-value consignments. Sea freight takes longer but is usually much more cost-effective for larger or heavier shipments. If you're not sure, ask us to quote both.

What's the difference between FCL and LCL?

FCL (full container load) means your goods have a shipping container to themselves. LCL (less than container load) means your freight shares container space with other shipments. FCL is often better value once you have enough freight to fill most of a container; LCL suits smaller volumes.

What are Incoterms, and why do you ask about them?

Incoterms are internationally recognised trade terms such as EXW, FOB and CIF that set out which parts of the journey the buyer and seller are each responsible for. Knowing them tells us which legs of the shipment you need quoted.

What do I need to provide for an international freight quote?

Origin and destination, a description of the goods, quantity, dimensions and weight, your ready date and required arrival date, and any agreed Incoterms. Let us know if you'll also need delivery or storage once the freight arrives.

What is container cartage?

Container cartage is the road transport of shipping containers typically from a port terminal or container park to the importer's or exporter's premises, and back again once the container has been unpacked or loaded.

What are container detention charges?

Shipping lines allow a set number of free days to return an empty container. Once those days run out, detention charges apply for each extra day. Tell us your free-day deadline when you request a quote so the return can be planned around it.

What information do you need to quote container transport?

The container size and type, where it's being collected from, the delivery address and site access, how it will be unpacked or loaded, an approximate weight, and any key dates such as availability and detention free days.

Can the container contents go into storage?

We provide warehousing as well as container transport, so let us know if some or all of the contents need to be stored and we'll include it in the quote.

What do you need to know to quote warehousing?

What the goods are and how they're packed, roughly how much space they'll need (for example, the number of pallets), how long they'll be stored, how often they'll move in and out, and any special storage requirements.

Can you arrange transport into and out of storage?

Yes. We provide container transport and domestic transport as well as warehousing, so the movements either side of storage can be quoted together.

How is warehousing priced?

Pricing depends on the space required, how long goods are stored and how much handling is involved. We quote each enquiry on its requirements rather than using a one-size-fits-all rate.

What details do you need for a domestic transport quote?

Pickup and delivery locations, what the freight is and how it's packed, approximate dimensions and weight, your preferred pickup date and any delivery deadline, plus access details at each end such as loading docks or forklifts.

Where do you pick up and deliver?

It depends on the job. Include your pickup and delivery locations when you request a quote, or call us on 0461 400 107, and we'll confirm whether we can do it.

Can you quote if I don't know the exact weight or size?

Yes give us your best estimate and say it's approximate. The more accurate the details, the more accurate the quote, and we'll confirm everything with you before the job is booked.

Still have a question?

Call us or send the details through the quote form we'll get back to you.
